Training for performers at Guy's and St Thomas'
14 October 2010
For performers, working in a hospital environment can be fulfilling, exhausting, enjoyable, distressing, exhilarating and tough all at the same time. Preparation for the experience, and support during and after it, is vital. Hospital staff and arts programme managers have to ensure that performers clearly understand the hospital environment and their role within it. They also need to understand how to reap the full benefits of working with performers. It was with these varied needs in mind that we recently provided musician training and created a Performers’ Handbook for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. We ran a training day for musicians already working in the hospital and were able to use their experiences and feedback when creating the handbook. If performer or musician training is something that interests you, please contact Jo Breckon for more details.
