Arts strategy to help transform Brighton hospital
14 October 2010
Willis Newson is working with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust to develop an integrated arts strategy for the 3Ts (Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary Care) Hospital redevelopment.
Lewes-based
public art consultant Frances Lord and Brighton-based artist Steve
Geliot will bring local expertise to the project, helping us reflect the
rich culture and community of Brighton. Together we aim to demonstrate
how the arts can be used to create effective therapeutic environments
and a strong sense of place and identity within the new hospital. We
will also be recommending ways in which the Trust can develop a
sustainable ongoing arts programme, forging lasting links with the local
community.
The new development is being delivered through
Procure21 (P21) with Laing O’Rourke as the P21 partner and BDP as the
architects. The arts strategy will be finalised by the end of 2010 and
building is due to start in 2012.
