Angela’s extensive knowledge of contemporary art has been demonstrated in curated exhibitions for major public galleries since 1985. Her most recent show, ‘Underwater’ – which featured ten international artists, including Bill Viola, Dorothy Cross and Ellen Gallagher – toured to five galleries around the English coast in 2010-11, attracting big audiences and positive press coverage.
Since 1998, she’s commissioned art for healthcare settings, principally at the Cancer Centre in Birmingham, where she curated 10 site-specific artworks by, for example, Simon Faithfull, David Ward and Sharon Kivland. She also put together a collection of paintings and photographs on the theme of ‘Symmetry and Balance’. Angela also writes about art for gallery publications and websites, and gives talks in galleries and universities.
"In my professional life I like to do two things: curate exhibitions for public galleries and commission art for hospitals. I believe it’s vital to connect ‘gallery’ art to ‘hospital’ art and to bring new artists to healthcare settings. In hospitals people tell me with great clarity why they need art, and this is inspiring. It’s a great responsibility – and an immensely rewarding challenge – to get the right artists involved. And once they are brought in, they very often surpass everyone’s expectations."
