Ashlar Railings
Willis Newson worked with Ashlar Group to integrate a set of sculptural gates and railings into the Refinery residential development in Old Market, Bristol. Designed and produced by Bristol artists John Packer and Kevin Hughes, the railings and gates were integrated into the historic façade of Jacob Street in June 2008. Ashlar director Robert Sawyer and architect Brian Woodward of Bristol-based Woodward AP architects were looking for railings and gates which would add impact to the development and create a visual link between the historic and contemporary parts of the site as well as maintaining security.
