Light Box: Evaluation

participants in an arts and health creative workshopLight Box, also known as The Happiness Project, provides free, open access arts-based ‘Happiness Workshops’ to members of the general public, including those referred by their GP through the arts on referral scheme.  It also runs courses for clients from a range of other referral bodies.

The Light Box team came to Willis Newson for support in developing an effective and appropriate framework for evaluating its work.  We focused on embedding the necessary tools and skills within the team to ensure that evaluation contributes to, and becomes a sustainable part of, the everyday delivery of the project.  With mentoring, training and hands-on assistance with aspects such as data analysis, this was implemented to evaluate a set of workshops in summer 2011. The resulting report has generated learning for future programmes and robust evidence that is being used in support of the project. In addition Light Box now has the confidence, knowledge and skills to undertake its own future evaluations in house.

"Working with Willis Newson on the evaluation has changed people's perceptions of the project. It says a lot about the way we work... that we are thorough."
