GRASP

GRASP, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital’s Artists in School Programme, has involved more than 250 children, 30 teachers and 20 hospital staff members. Through 5 primary school artist residencies, local children found out how a modern hospital works, and hospital staff engaged with them outside a treatment situation.

GRASP Project

Artists then distilled this dialogue into entertaining and educational permanent artworks for the hospital. GRASP demonstrates that an imaginative partnership between the education and health sectors facilitated by the arts, can provide health education, build new skills, raise confidence and pride, and give a lot of pleasure.

"Children can obviously be in a very distressed state when they come to hospital, and anything which helps take their minds off what's happening to them has got to be good."
