Bristol Royal Infirmary Redevelopment

BRI, Terrell Street ward block architectural sketch. Image: Coda Architects.Bristol Royal Infirmary is currently the subject of major redevelopment by University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBristol).  The work includes several refurbishments and the building of a new entrance and ward block.  At the same time Bristol is centralising its specialist paediatric services, entailing major changes for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. For our third project with UHBristol, we have developed an integrated art strategy to enhance the patient environment within areas affected by these redevelopments.  Our knowledge of the needs of the Trust and the communities it serves are proving invaluable.

It is planned that commissioned artists will contribute artworks to areas including main public routes, entrances, the atrium of a new ward block and the building façade.  Other elements will include a photography commission and partnership projects between departments specifically affected by the redevelopment and local community organisations and artists.

Above & Beyond, the Trust’s charitable fund, is funding artworks to create a nicer environment for staff and patients in key patient and public areas across the development.  Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal is supporting the creation of a child-friendly environment with integrated artworks to enhance the redevelopment of Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
