Arts at Callington Road: Evaluation
Evaluation was an integral part of the Arts at Callington Road project from the start. It involved collaboration between Willis Newson, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP), the University of the West of England (UWE) and Bristol City Council. A ‘reflective’ or evaluative residency ran alongside participatory artists’ residencies within the new Callington Road mental health unit. Researchers were able to provide support, encourage participation and facilitate communication during the project. A formal evaluation used observation, active participation, and a final focus group with stakeholders to explore the value of creative activity to service users and staff and to determine factors affecting its success.
